The Dangers of 5G

By now, most of us are used to hearing about advancements in mobile communication technologies. In particular, we have progressed through several generations of such technologies since the 1970s – from 1G, or first generation, to 4G – and most of us have been hearing about upcoming 5G mobile communication technology for some time now. Promising though it may sound, however, 5G mobile communication technology could be the most serious human health hazard to arise in decades; read on to learn more.

A Brief History of Mobile Communication Technologies

Mobile communication technologies have evolved through the years as follows:

  • 1970s to 1980s – 1G – 2Kbps speed
  • 1990 to 2004 – 2G – 64Kbps speed
  • 2004 to 2010 – 3G – 2Mbps speed
  • Now – 4G – 1Gbps speed
  • By 2020 – 5G – More than 1Gbps

Unbeknownst to most people, 5G technologies have been under development for several years already. In fact, many government defense agencies have developed the technology for things like crowd control. The U.S. military has employed millimeter waves, or MMWs, which are used in 5G, to develop crowd dispersal guns. Known as Active Denial Systems, they pelt people with MMWs that make their bodies feel like they are on fire.

Additionally, live testing of 5G technologies has been underway for some time. From AT&T to Charter to private companies like Oracle, Sprint and HTC, many organizations have been experimenting with 5G in preparation of it potentially “going live” as early as 2020.

4G vs. 5G

Some of the top differences between 4G and 5G technologies include:

  • Speeds – 4G technology tops out at bandwidths of around 6GHz while 5G relies on bands in the 30 to 300GHz range. When applied to video latency, this translates into speeds that are 60 to 120 times faster than 4G.
  • Absorption – While 4G MMWs travel on the surface of the skin, 5G MMWs have been shown to be absorbed into the dermis and epidermis of the skin, which then rises in temperature.
  • Towers – Current 4G cell towers stand around 90 feet tall and contain around 12 antenna ports. 5G towers, or bases, are only around 4 feet tall and contain upwards of 100 ports.
  • Transmission times – 5G technology breaks data down and sends it in smaller sizes. As a result, it offers significantly reduced transmission times. With 5G, there is only a 1 millisecond delay versus a 50-millisecond delay with 4G.
  • Radiation emission – While 4G continuously emits radiation, 5G offers “radiation on demand,” which implies that it should be safer. However, smart devices continuously send out beacons even when not in use.
  • Beamforming versus blanketing – 4G technology essentially emits a “blanket” of radiation. 5G technology, on the other hand, uses beamforming – also known as phased array – to pinpoint connections. However, multiple beams work together to produce a concentrated focus that actually results in more radiation.

Because 5G towers will broadcast higher frequency signals, which dissipate more quickly, many more towers will be needed. In fact, rather than towers, 5G will mostly be broadcast via small bases that are expected to be mounted on everything from traffic lights to people’s homes. As a result, we will all be far closer to these antennas than we ever were before – and on a pretty much ongoing basis.

Studies Highlight Dangers of 5G Technology

Thus far, thousands of studies have linked wireless radio frequency radiation exposure to a number of health risks, including:

  • oxidative damage
  • disruption of brain glucose metabolism
  • DNA single- and double-strand breaks
  • increased blood-brain barrier permeability
  • disruption of cellular metabolism
  • generation of stress proteins
  • melatonin reduction

Studies have also shown potential links between this type of radiation and the following conditions:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • cancer
  • chronic fatigue
  • miscarriage
  • infertility
  • brain tumors
  • depression
  • autism
  • heart disease

Potential Dangers of Upcoming 5G Wireless Technology

As numerous studies have shown, upcoming 5G technology poses a variety of serious risks to the health and safety of everyone on our planet. These include:

  1. Eye Health – A 1994 study showed that low-level radiation exposure caused lens opacity in rats’ eyes – a precursor to cataracts.
  2. Skin Health – Studies have shown that the body’s 2 to 4 million sweat ducts become more conductive when exposed to MMWs. As a result, more than 90 percent of the power is absorbed into the epidermis and dermis of the skin.
  3. Cellular Growth – A 2016 Armenian study examined the effects of MMWs on E. coli and other bacteria. The study showed that such exposure stunted the growth of these bacteria while affecting their properties and the activities of their cells. Could the same effects apply to human cells?
  4. Heart Health – A 1992 study out of Russia showed that exposure to MMWs in the 53 to 78GHz range impacted heart rate variability in rats, which can be an indication of stress
  5. Bacterial Resistance – The 2016 Armenian study also showed that exposure to MMWs appears to alter bacteria’s sensitivity to biologically active chemicals like antibiotics. This could potentially result in an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which could pose severe health risks for the human population.
  6. The Atmosphere – To make 5G a reality, a new type of hydrocarbon rocket engine is required to launch satellites into space. Because these satellites have much shorter lifespans than previous ones, many additional deployments will be needed. These new rockets emit black carbon that could impact global atmospheric circulation as well as the distribution of temperatures and ozone across the world.
  7. Plants – MMWs that are used in 5G technology are highly susceptible to absorption by plants and rain. Thus far, it is unclear how this will impact things like the safety of food on our planet.
  8. The Ecosystem – Since around the year 2000, when advancements in wireless transmission technologies really escalated, studies have shown that many birds are abandoning their nests and exhibiting other unusual behavior. Similarly, bees that are exposed to MMWs may suffer from reduced egg-laying capabilities among other issues. These types of things can have unpredictable and irreversible effects on Earth’s ecosystem.

Join Us in Raising Awareness About the Dangers of 5G

Because 5G technology will be such a cash cow for so many, those who are developing it don’t like to discuss or even examine its potential health risks. Given how well-documented these risks have been across so many studies, this should be highly concerning to all of us.

While most are keeping quiet, a few experts have been speaking out, including respected members of the International Agency Research on Cancer and the Global Union Against Radiation Deployment from Space, or GUARD, which submitted a letter to the FCC in September 2016 outlining the potential risks. You can join us in helping to raise awareness too – visit our website for more information. https://www.5gspaceappeal.org/the-appeal
